The Pedagogy program in History, Geography and Social Sciences aims at developing different skills
that will allow students to analyze and reflect on the complexity and the needs of Chilean education
system, emphasizing professional conducts that show a commitment to preparing the teaching process
and to fostering a constructive and inclusive learning environment.

Admission & Students Benefits
Applicants to the program of Pedagogy in History, Geography and Social Sciences are selected based
on their performance in the national University Entrance Exam (Spanish acronym PSU). At the end of
the first semester, students of Institute of History are given the choice of continuing with Pedagogy in
History, Geography and Social Sciences while simultaneously majoring in History with a minor in
Political Science, or choosing one of the two.
Applicants to the program are evaluated based on their weighted scored calculated in the following manner:
- NEM (Chilean equivalent for high school GPA) 10%
- Class ranking 15%
- Communication and Language test 35%
- Mathematics test 30%
History and Social Sciences, or History and Science test 10%
Should the applicant choose Elective Tests, all subjects will be considered equally. Should the
applicant take both Mandatory and Elective Tests, the calculation of weighted score will account for
the Elective Test with the highest grade.
In the admission process for 2017, the accepted range of weighted scores is as follows:
- Accepted applicant with highest score 699,7
- Accepted applicant with lowest score 588,7

To attend and obtain my degree as a History and Geography Teacher at the History Institute in the
Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, provided me with a set of practical and theoretical tools
that always are at my disposal whenever I need them as a part of my development as a profesional
both in the areas of education and historic discipline. This is the reason I began my profesional career
as a History teacher in the best posible way facing no problems, due to the quality of the education I
received from the History Institute and from the University as well. In addition to the valuable
instruments received that allow me to develop myself in the educational área, work in many other
subjects was encouraged, being that the reason I am exploring new edges and different ways to
complete my profesional life
